The concept for Carolina Clay Gallery is the opportunity to present to the Lowcountry the unique art of the potters of North and South Carolina. Carolina Clay Gallery features the largest collection of pottery and clay sculptures handcrafted by potters who are continuing a 200-year tradition in the Carolinas. Each piece is individually designed by the artist; many nationally renowned for their beautiful designs, glazes and quality.

The gallery provides educational opportunities to learn of the history, methods of production and the individual process of creativity by offering in-store events featuring visiting potters, wheel demonstrations and special exhibits.

“I’ve always wanted to own and operate my own small business and with the development of Freshfields Village I felt the time was right,” comments Janet Sbihli of Carolina Clay Gallery. “We really like the location of Freshfields Village, not only because it’s close to our home on Seabrook Island, but also because we have a unique mix of customers including local residents, seasonal residents, vacationers, and designers that we hope view our store as a great resource.”

After retiring from the corporate world, the Sbihli’s purchased a cottage near Penland, North Carolina to escape the coastal summer heat. But, according to Janet, they soon realized they would use the cottage as a base to search for beautiful pottery made in the Carolinas. “That is where we found the product idea for Carolina Clay Gallery!”

Carolina Clay Gallery features pottery and clay sculptures that are 100% handcrafted by Carolina Potters. “The pottery is made by men and women who are continuing a 200-year-old tradition in the Carolinas,” Janet explains. “We hope our customers see that Carolina Clay offers a unique shopping experience with bright and lively décor and beautiful displays that make it easy to find the perfect gift or home accessory.”
